Rabies is a serious concern that requires immediate attention and proper intervention. To ensure the safety of both humans and animals, BBMP has designated specific protocols for handling suspected rabies cases and affected animals.
Rabies Isolation & Vaccination Protocol
BBMP has set up Rabies Isolation Centres to manage and treat animals exposed to rabies. Any bitten pups will be taken to the isolation centre, where they will receive post-bite Anti-Rabies Vaccinations (ARV) as per the prescribed schedule.
Strict Vaccination & Release Policy
Under the guidance of the Chief Veterinary Surgeon, the following measures are implemented:
- Pups will be kept under observation and vaccinated at the centre according to the ARV schedule.
- They will only be released after completing the full vaccination course.
- If applicable, Animal Birth Control (ABC) procedures will be conducted. However, since they are pups, a thorough assessment of their age will be carried out to determine whether they can undergo the procedure.
Zone-Wise Rescue Operations
BBMP has partnered with service providers through a structured tender process to streamline rescue operations across all 8 BBMP zones. Each zone has a dedicated rescue vehicle and personnel in charge:
- South, West & Bommanahalli – Dr. Chandan
- East & Mahadevapura – Mrs. Poornima Harish (Samarpan Trust)
- RR Nagar, Yelahanka & Dasarahalli – CARE
